Informations

The commercial port of Propriano, located on the southwest coast of Corsica, plays a key role in the region's economy. This natural harbor, sheltered from the winds by the surrounding mountains, is a vital entry point for goods destined for the island. Propriano, a small and dynamic town, benefits from the port activity that supports the fishing, transport, and tourism sectors.

The commercial port accommodates a variety of vessels, mainly cargo ships and ferries providing connections between Corsica and the mainland, particularly with the city of Marseille. It facilitates the transport of essential goods, such as construction materials, fuel, food products, and other goods necessary for local life. Thanks to its modern infrastructure, the port of Propriano supports the logistical needs of the town and the surrounding areas.

Alongside its commercial activity, the port of Propriano is also a marina, where many yachts and sailboats stop, attracting tourists. This creates a dynamic connection between the economic sectors, tourism, and maritime commerce. The port is also the starting point for maritime excursions to nearby beaches, the islands of southern Corsica, or even the Scandola Nature Reserve.

Local authorities have undertaken expansion and modernization projects to improve infrastructure and facilitate trade exchanges, while preserving the region's exceptional natural environment. The commercial port of Propriano continues to play a central role in the economic development of the town, while also serving as a strategic location for maritime exchanges in southern Corsica.

Each year, the port welcomes nearly 115,000 passengers, 376 ship rotations, and processes more than 89,000 tonnes of goods.

Since January 1, 2023, the Corsica Linea Company has provided maritime DSP with the establishment, throughout the year, of 3 connections per week between Propriano and Marseille, supplemented in July by 2 additional stopovers per week. In 2024, the Corsica Linea Company will renew the experience, building on its success in 2023, by offering more than forty additional rotations, excluding DSP, i.e. an offer of around 30,000 seats - to Marseille - in season.

Propriano

Presentation

Propriano is a charming town located on the southwest coast of Corsica, in the Taravo Valley region. It benefits from an exceptional natural setting between the sea and mountains, making it a popular tourist destination. With a population of around 3,000 inhabitants, Propriano is a lively seaside resort, especially in the summer, when the local population is multiplied by thousands of visitors.

The town is dominated by its port, which serves as a true hub of activity. The Propriano marina welcomes many yachts and cruise ships, but it also plays an important role in the region's maritime commerce, facilitating trade with the mainland and other Mediterranean islands. The port is lined with restaurants, cafés, and shops, creating a vibrant and pleasant atmosphere.

The coastline of Propriano is one of the town's main assets. Its fine sandy beaches, such as Trégaghju Beach and Capu Laurosu Beach, attract lovers of relaxation and water sports. The crystal-clear waters, protected by the surrounding hills, make it a true paradise for swimming and marine activities.

Propriano also boasts a rich historical heritage. Its Church of Saint Francis, built in the 18th century, and its many traditional houses testify to the town's history and its past shaped by Genoese influences. The town center, with its picturesque streets, offers a friendly and typically Corsican atmosphere, where visitors can discover local products and taste traditional cuisine, such as sheep's cheese, honey, or figatellu, a regional charcuterie specialty.

The hinterland of Propriano is equally appealing, with mountains and valleys offering exceptional hiking opportunities. The Alta Rocca massif, located not far from the town, is ideal for nature lovers, with its forests, trails, and prehistoric sites.

In summary, Propriano perfectly embodies the charm of southern Corsica, combining natural beauty, rich history, and a vibrant local life. Whether for its beaches, its port, or its mountain landscapes, this Mediterranean town is a must-visit destination for travelers seeking tranquility, discovery, and relaxation.
