Informations

The Moulin de l’Éclis, nestled along the Atlantic coast in the commune of Assérac, Loire-Atlantique, perfectly embodies the subtle blend of historical heritage, unspoiled nature, and seaside relaxation.

Located just a stone’s throw from the famous Guérande Peninsula, at the gateway to the Brière Regional Nature Park, the Moulin de l’Éclis site stretches between the ocean, salt marshes, and vast wooded areas. Its name comes from an old tidal mill that once used the power of water retained by a sluice gate (“éclis” being an old form of the word “écluse”) to grind grain—an echo of a rural lifestyle deeply rooted in the maritime environment. Although the original mill is no longer active, its name lives on as a tribute to this agricultural and seafaring past.

Today, the Moulin de l’Éclis is above all a popular tourist destination, notably thanks to its namesake 4-star campground. This large, wooded estate opens directly onto one of Assérac’s most beautiful beaches—a vast expanse of fine sand kissed by the tides of southern Brittany.

The beach at Moulin de l’Éclis is both family-friendly and peaceful, ideal for swimming, beach games, or simply relaxing by the ocean. Lined with gentle dunes and sheltered from urban bustle, it offers a natural setting of great serenity. At low tide, beachcombers joyfully scour the sandbanks in search of clams and cockles.

The campground itself stands out for its spacious accommodations and modern amenities: a heated aquatic area with slides, a spa, playgrounds, sports courts, summer entertainment, a restaurant, and an on-site mini-market. It welcomes families, couples, and groups of friends seeking nature, comfort, and the seaside.

In the background, the Mès salt marshes—an extension of the Guérande marshes—unfold their glittering grid between land and sea. These are cultivated by salt workers who perpetuate centuries-old techniques, offering visitors a poetic display through the seasons and a chance to discover a unique artisanal and ecological heritage.

Nearby, several hiking trails allow for the exploration of this lesser-known yet stunning stretch of the Atlantic coast. The GR34, the iconic coastal path, runs nearby and connects wild beaches to charming villages such as Pénestin or Mesquer, following hidden cliffs and picturesque coves along the way.

The Moulin de l’Éclis thus represents an ideal destination for sustainable tourism, in harmony with the sea, the forest, and local traditions. Whether it’s lounging on the sand, cycling or hiking, exploring the salt marshes, or sampling local products, visitors enjoy a full immersion in the gentle way of life found on the Breton Atlantic coast.

In every season, the site enchants with its soothing atmosphere, the variety of its landscapes, and the richness of its heritage. A small corner of paradise where one can breathe in the salty sea air, the scent of maritime pines, and the discreet charm of an authentic shoreline.

Go Wind

Plaisir Kite & Wingfoil Center, informally known as “Go Wind,” is ideally located on Pont-Mahé Beach in Assérac, Loire-Atlantique. Nestled between the ocean and the salt marshes, this natural site offers an exceptional setting for learning and practicing kitesurfing and wing foiling all year round.

The center enjoys direct access to the beach in a zone specifically reserved for water sports. It is set at the entrance of the Moulin de l’Éclis campground, allowing students to benefit from changing rooms, hot showers, and a safe, comfortable environment before and after each session.

One of the great advantages of this spot lies in the unique configuration of Pont-Mahé Bay: shallow waters stretching for hundreds of meters, calm conditions, pleasant water temperatures, and steady winds blowing predominantly from the southwest to the northwest. These ideal conditions make it a perfect location to begin, improve, or refine one’s technique in complete safety.

The center offers customizable training courses ranging from 1 to 5 days, depending on individual needs and goals. Lessons are led by a certified and experienced instructor in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere, with a radio helmet system allowing real-time guidance on the water. Whether you're a complete beginner or seeking greater autonomy, the instruction is tailored to suit every profile.

All equipment provided is top-of-the-line, renewed each season, featuring the latest generation wings and boards suited to every skill level. Safety is at the heart of the teaching philosophy—alongside fun and environmental awareness.

Outside of lessons, the center also offers equipment rentals, guided sessions, and customizable gift vouchers valid for an entire year—perfect for giving a unique oceanfront experience.

The setting also allows visitors to combine the joys of water sports with relaxation in nature. Just steps away, hiking trails, the Mès salt marshes, the Atlantic coast beaches, the Brière Regional Nature Park, and charming towns like Pénestin or Guérande add to the richness of the experience.

Accessible to all, family-friendly, and set in an exceptional environment, Plaisir Kite & Wingfoil in Assérac is the ideal place to discover or further explore kitesurfing and wing foiling with confidence—facing the Atlantic horizon.

A place where the elements come together to offer freedom, sensation, and a deep connection with the sea, in an atmosphere that is both sporty and soothing.

Assérac

Presentation

Assérac is a charming commune located in Loire-Atlantique, at the northern tip of the Guérande Peninsula, nestled between the Atlantic Ocean, salt marshes, and unspoiled nature. Covering an area of 32.91 km² and home to around 1,860 residents (known as Asseracais), it offers a varied landscape that subtly blends seaside atmosphere with rural farmland.

Stretching along a welcoming coastal strip, the commune is bordered by several renowned beaches: Pont-Mahé Bay, a favorite among kitesurfers and windsurfers, but also popular for horseback rides along the sand; and Pen-Bé Bay, with its silty "traict" and typical oyster beds. At low tide, the exposed shore becomes ideal for shellfish gathering or simply enjoying the salty breeze.

To the south lies the Mès salt marsh area, a traditional salt-producing region of over 600 hectares that forms part of the larger Guérande basin. Paludiers (salt workers) still harvest the famous Guérande salt here using ancestral techniques. Nearby, the Pont de Fer pond, designated a regional nature reserve since 2008, enhances this remarkable ecological landscape, which is also protected under the Natura 2000 network.

Assérac is also part of the Brière Regional Natural Park, a protected area that showcases the rich biodiversity of wetlands lying between land and sea. The commune offers a variety of hiking routes, including the GR34 coastal path, bike trails, educational circuits through the marshes, dunes, and along the Atlantic beaches.

The village center of Assérac is peaceful and understated, home to the neo-Gothic Saint-Hilaire Church, consecrated in 1886 and distinguished by its octagonal bell tower. The Château du Quenet and the Kerougas Manor reflect the area's noble heritage, once under the influence of the Rieux and Lopriac families until the French Revolution.

Cultural life in Assérac remains vibrant throughout the year, with fest-noz (traditional Breton dance festivals), reading nights, concerts, theater, flea markets, and community dances, all organized by a network of active local associations.

Economically, the commune thrives on a balanced mix of agriculture, oyster farming, salt production, and tourism. This synergy creates a local economy that is both rooted in tradition and welcoming to visitors seeking peace and authenticity.

Assérac is thus an ideal destination for those looking to enjoy preserved nature, outdoor activities, heritage exploration, and seaside relaxation. A discreet charm, an ocean breeze, and a rejuvenating escape for all lovers of the Atlantic coast.
